Serving Belmont, Elgin County
Belmont was settled in the 1830s along Catfish Creek and named after Belmont House, an early estate. The Central Elgin village grew up as a service centre for the surrounding St. Thomas-area farmland and remained a quiet rural community through the 20th century — best known regionally for the Belmont Fall Fair and the Belmont Stockyards which operated for decades.
